A modern day story about finding your fortune in the world of West Texas oil rigs. A Landman, at least one working in the oil industry, will act as an intermediary between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a Landman’s job is to negotiate and finalize agreements with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. Essentially, they manage the land and secure leases so that oil and gas can be drilled. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, worker quarters (human camp), oversee the assembly of drilling equipment, and the drilling of the well itself, especially in remote locations. They are also partly fixers, problem solvers, and enablers. Reference CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode #44.24 (2022). This could easily have been rated an 8.5-9. If only the daughter and ex-wife/mother weren’t so sexualized and embarrassing. They don’t serve the plot and are just annoying and insulting to the women of West Texas. As someone from the far west of Texas, I can kind of understand where Sheridan is coming from, but this is awful. West Texas women are the strongest and most ambitious I know. Plus, the writing and acting are great now. Sheridan could easily get another Yellowstone if he gets rid of the very awkward family bone. But then again, I like Sheridan’s writing (and acting) and it’s a very enjoyable show for the most part.
