In The Day of the Jackal (1973), the Jackal drives a white Alfa Romeo, even though it’s an older model. Graham Norton Show: Denzel Washington/Paul Mescal/Saoirse Ronan/Eddie Redmayne/Blossoms (2024). TLDR: Redmayne nails it. Lynch is not suited to the role. Unfortunately, the direction is not up to par, which detracts from an otherwise spectacular and high-quality production. Lynch’s fault, it’s just that Redmayne has set a high bar. A more experienced actor could have played a more believable partner/antagonist who would challenge the Jackal. Overall, the story is a viable adaptation. The character development works, although some things in the main characters’ narratives are open-ended, but it could have been better. The locations, the different interactions, and the way Redmayne speaks and switches characters really add a special layer to the story arc. The barometer of deception is always running in the background. I’m looking forward to seeing how season 1 ends and how season 2 maintains or improves on the quality. Hopefully Lynch will loosen up a bit and give a more nuanced performance in an attempt to live up to Redmayne. If that happens, season 2 could be a very promising one.
